Halen Môn Range

Pure White Sea Salt PDO from Wales

Pure White Sea Salt PDO from Wales

Pure Sea Salt PDO is what Halen Môn is famous for - sea salt for cooking. Hand-harvested, organic-approved Welsh sea salt made from Anglesey sea water and absolutely nothing else. A delicate balance of minerals, depth of flavour, and no bitterness. The signature crunchy flakes (often known as flake sea salt) or Pure Sea Salt are soft enough to crush between your fingers. This salt is famous for a reason – it easily adds flavour to everything, including triple-cooked chips and a perfectly cooked steak.

Pure Sea Salt Smoked over Oak

Pure Sea Salt Smoked over Oak

Award-winning Pure Sea Salt is slowly smoked over oak chippings until it turns beautifully golden. Awarded three Gold Stars in the Great Taste Awards, the highest accolade in the Oscars of the food world. The judges said: 'the taste of the sea, with subtle notes of smokiness, slightly sweet and richly umami – this is the most wonderful salt.' Easily adds flavour to grilled or barbecued meat, fish and vegetables, buttery mashed potatoes, roasted savoury seeds for snacking, caramel-based puddings and chocolate chip cookies.

Oak Smoked Water

Oak Smoked Water

Brilliant for the more adventurous cook looking for something different, Oak Smoked Water is loved by chefs, commercial food producers and home cooks alike. A 100% natural artisan ingredient, made entirely from wood smoke and water, Halen Môn Oak Smoked Water is made by the skilled team by hand in the smokers on-site at Halen Môn in Wales, using sustainable woodchip. A few drops can add a savoury depth, and a bit more will give an overtly smoky flavour to soups, casseroles, risottos or chowders, marinades for meat or vegetables for a cooked-over-wood-complexity, homemade dips like hummus, guacamole and Muhammara, or tomato sauce for pastas and pizza bases.

The very first flavour blend made by Halen Môn, it's versatile and warming, but not hot. Makes the best roast chicken, golden crusted roast potatoes, creamy vegetable gratins or olive oil drizzled hummus

Founder-Owners of Halen Môn

In quest of world's finest flake sea salt

Alison and her husband, David, co-founded Halen Môn (literally, Anglesey Salt) in 1997.

First, they set up The Sea Zoo which ended up becoming Wales’ largest aquarium. That's where they noticed that the sea around the island was exceptionally clean, as the notoriously fussy seahorses at The Sea Zoo bred happily in it.

Alison and David had a feeling that these briny waters had the potential to produce the exceptional sea salt. In 1997, they left a saucepan of seawater to boil on the Aga in their family kitchen and as the salt crystals started to form, they knew they’d struck culinary gold – the world’s finest flake sea salt was born.
